DGI strives for robust local governments in urban and rural areas to have policies and governance systems that enhance people’s participation in policy-making processes, while adequately delivering on their mandate. In doing this, DGI does policy research or analysis and development with an emphasis on decentralization, local government and service delivery reforms. In urban areas, DGI’s work is focused on city development, land use, infrastructure, local economy, social service (e.g. housing) and socio-economic surveys that inform spatial, service and local economic development policies, plans and programmes. DGI is of the view that the development of robust
urban governance systems or frameworks will enhance the implantation of the New Urban Agenda.
